U.S. Army Technical Bulletin 9-1300-278: Guidelines for Safe Response to Handling, Storage, and Transportation Accidents Involving Army Tank Munitions or Armor Which Contain Depleted Uranium (PDF).

The Army's policy is that all soldiers will receive DU awareness training (Tier I); with additional specialized training provided to those with occupational specialties that involve battle damage assessment, or repair and maintenance of tracked and wheeled vehicles (Tier II); and to officer and enlisted Chemical Corps soldiers (Tier III). The DU training program, updated in 2004, focuses on force health protection and operational effectiveness and includes a common task, "Respond to Depleted Uranium", in the Soldier's Manual of Common Tasks (SMCT).
